Indescribable happiness.
A colourful, happy life lies in the celebration of Source. Every morning the candles are lit on the altar in every Indian household; the prayers begin at 4 a.m., and mandalas, flowers and fruit are offered to the Divine. It is a ritual reminder that we are never alone and that we are dancing together with the Divine. I love embracing all religions, seeing them as different paths to one Source.
Two days ago I visited my favourite Basilica di San Marco in Venice. The Mass was in Italian, and my limited Italian—buongiorno, molto bella and grazie—obviously did not help much, but the energy was powerful and I stayed through the entire service, receiving blessings in the form of holy water and a flavourless waffle. Somehow it moved me to tears, and I interpreted it as a recognition and connection of soul, spirit and the Divine.
The experience was so intense and precious that I did not want to waste it on trivial matters, so I returned straight to the hotel to meditate and then went to bed. I was pleasantly surprised to wake at 4 a.m., eager for my yoga practice. I felt it was linked to the previous day’s Mass. I had no yoga mat, but a woolly hotel blanket served the purpose. By the end of the practice I felt bliss and indescribable happiness, a sense of oneness. Once again it showed me that yoga is not merely exercise, stretching or a handstand; it is a profound connection to the Divine—a prayer of oneness.
